Sau kết quả 0-0 giữa Chelsea và Tottenham, HLV Mourinho bỗng khiêm tốn đến lạ dù vừa giành lại ngôi đầu với câu nói: “Tottenham đã giành lại ngôi đầu bảng và năm nay, nhiều người nói rằng Tottenham là ứng viên vô địch nhưng ở giải Ngoại hạng Anh này thì Tottenham chỉ là “ngựa nhỏ” trong cuộc đua vô địch và không thể đua cùng các “ngựa chiến” khác”.
Lập tức, trò Lampard phản bác lại ngay: “HLV Mourinho ví đội bóng của ông là “ngựa nhỏ” nhưng tôi không đồng tình với quan điểm ấy. Nếu ông ấy cho Chelsea là ứng viên vô địch thì Tottenham của ông ấy cũng thế. Họ đang là đội dẫn đầu giải, có thực lực và họ được dẫn dắt bởi một HLV giàu kinh nghiệm nên không thể chỉ là “ngựa nhỏ” mà thôi. Không thể loại Tottenham khỏi cuộc đua, bởi đó cũng là một thế lực ở giải Ngoại hạng Anh năm nay”.
Học trò Lampard còn nhận xét: “Một đội bóng mà HLV vừa giàu kinh nghiệm, vừa có Harry Kane lẫn Son Heung-min trong đội hình thì sẽ phải là một thành viên nặng ký trong nhóm đua vô địch. Nên nhớ Son Heung-min đã ghi chín bàn; còn Kane thì bảy bàn, đồng thời cũng là nhà kiến tạo rất bén. Đáng ngại hơn là Tottenham có những trận biết giữ sạch lưới và còn có lực lượng hậu bị rất mạnh”.
